Elections to Cheshire East Council were held on Thursday 2nd May. The Gawsworth Community elects three councillors, two forMacclesfield South ward which covers the Penningtons Lane
area and one for Gawsworth ward which covers the village and rural area.
In Gawsworth Ward Conservative Lesley Smetham was re-elected with 883 votes, beating Labour candidate Fiona Wilson. Turnout was 37.77% and 53 ballots were rejected.
In Macclesfield South Ward Labour’s Laura Jeuda was re-elected with 1133 votes alongside Labour candidate Brian Puddicombe who received 1049 votes. They both beat Conservative candidates Philip Bolton (599 votes) and John Waterhouse (528 votes). Turnout was 29.06% and 74 ballots were rejected.
