Cyclists stopped at a "stop sign" at the Gawsworth Crossroads

Crossroads Roadworks Update

Cheshire East Council has provided an update on the roadworks at the crossroads.

Following the discovery of a large collapsed drain under the A536 at the corner of Church Lane, work was undertaken last Saturday to repair it. This allowed them to continue with the resurfacing works this week as planned. The majority of the ‘civils’ work (traffic signals ducting, kerbs, footpaths) is now complete. All remaining works are due to be completed by the end of next week, weather permitting. This will primarily be installing all the traffic signals cabling, plus road markings and some outstanding works on the street lighting. They are currently adjusting exactly what happens when, due to storm Darrah.

The completion of the above is one week later than originally planned. The delays have come from time lost due to working around underground utilities on Dark Lane that were much more heavily congested than expected, plus the very cold weather at the end of November meant they lost additional days due to not being able to lay concrete and tarmac in freezing conditions.

Due to the number of underground utilities on Dark Lane in the area where a street lighting column was proposed, they are not able to install it. CEC therefore won’t be installing any street lighting on Dark Lane. All other street lighting is currently either installed or in the process of being installed.
